Nismo 270R – a rare edition of Nissan Silvia S14 (240sx)

In 1994, when Silvia S14 first came out, NISMO tuned 30 units and named them 270R, representing the engine output of 270hp. NISMO, Nissan’s motorsports arm and factory tuner, was among the first factory tuners in Japan, and the 270R represented one of its first complete-car projects. This car became a celebrating item for NISMO’s 10th anniversary.

As standard, the 270R version of the S14 Silvia features a vented bonnet with a front-mounted intercooler, a Nismo ‘Edge’ aero kit, a high-performance clutch, Nismo control arms, under-chassis bracing, a new sway bar, and firmer springs and shock absorbers.

It is powered by the turbocharged 270hp 2.0-litre SR20DET, coupled to a five-speed manual gearbox and Nismo two-way limited-slip differential. Nismo increased the power of the engine, not by installing larger turbos, but incorporating custom cams, an intercooler and a revised ECU.

NISMO replaced the steering wheel with their own product and fitted a 300km/h speedometer unit. A cut-off switch is used to stop the engine in case of emergency, and used in nearly all race cars. All the 270s were painted black with “Nismo 270R” badging above the rear wheels.
